Falls City [Nebraska]

Mr. Isaac Martin died at his
residence, two miles north-east of this city, on Sunday evening, April
3rd. He was among the first settlers of this county, and was well and
favorably known throughout the county. The funeral took place from the
M.E. church, on Tuesday, and the remains were followed to their last resting
place, in Steele Cemetery, by large procession. At the time of his death,
he was 71 years, 9 months and 2 days old.

Died, at his residence, 2 miles
northeast of Falls City, April 3d, 1881, Isaac Martin, in the 72d year
of his age. He was born in Athens county, Ohio, June 14, 1809. Married
Oct. 21, 1828. Converted and joined the M.E. Church in August, 1829. Licensed
to exhort and appointed class leader in 1830, and licensed to preach in
1837. He served the church faithfully as a local preacher, in the States
of Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska about 44 years. He was one of
the early pioneers in Northwestern Missouri, having settled in Holt county
in 1842. He endured the hardships and privations of the frontier, and
shared in the honors of planting Christianity in many of the new settlements.
He was an honest, upright citizen, a faithful and consistent christian,
a generous neighbor, a kind and tender husband and father. His sufferings
were extremely painful during the last two weeks of his life, yet he endured
them patiently. He was universally esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves
to mourn a widow and eight children.

MARTIN—At her home two
miles north of Falls City, Neb., Sunday, March 4, 1894, Mrs. Mary Martin,
aged 83 years, 6 months and 1 day.

The deceased was born Septemer
3, 1811, in Westmoreland county, Pa. She was united in marriage to Rev.
Isaac Martin (many years an honored local preacher in the Methodist church)
October 31, 1828.
She was converted and united
with the Methodist church December 25, 1830, and for about sixty-four
years she lived in uninterrupted membership in the church, at all times
sustaining her religious experience and christian integrity. She died
as she had lived, in the triumphs of faith.
In March, 1868, the family
moved to the farm near Falls City. For several years Mrs. Martin has been
a widow. The following children mourn her loss: Rev. Elza Martin, John
Martin, Colorado; Rev. Joseph Martin, University Place; Sarah Laird, California;
Jane Humphrey, Falls City; Susannah Wilson, Iowa; Mary Rhine, Kansas;
Lucinda Crook, Falls City. All these were present except Mrs. Laird and
Mr. John Martin. A brother of Mrs. Martin, John Irwin, was present.
The funeral services were held
from the Methodist church Tuesday morning, Rev. John Gallagher preaching
the funeral sermon. The remains were laid to rest in Steele's cemetery.
